In the beginning
My passion for the web began in 1994. At that time I was working as a corporate executive chef in the Silicon Valley. I worked for companies such as Borland, Genentech, Sun Microsystems, Electronic Arts and Apple. While cooking for the international and creative audience that staffed these companies, I was inspired to continually create fresh new recipes and learn more about cuisines of different cultures. Working in Silicon Valley I was naturally drawn to search the web for resources. Previously, I would hunt through book stores in pursuit of great cook books. Now I had many more ideas at my fingertips. I not only became re-energized about my cooking, I had found another passion – the web. Over the course of time, I began looking at the actual websites these recipes were on and thought to myself, “I can do better than that”. I bought my first html book and began creating websites. This was a natural transition because I was able to bring the creativity and eye for aesthetics I had developed through cooking, to graphics and design. I also took my passion for learning and trying new things and was able to apply it to web development. I liked the idea of being able to create something and share it with others, and not have it be eaten – then gone. I decided that web design was the direction I wanted to pursue so I took the next step.
The next step
In 2000, I attended a highly rated web development program in Santa Rosa, Ca, and received my webmaster certificate. While going to school I worked as tech support for the CS (computer service) department for the tech academy. I got my first official web job at Advanced Fibre Communications, Inc. in Petaluma Ca, designing their human resources intranet site. After graduation I began working for R. Cassidy Seminars in Santa Rosa as a web/graphic designer redesigning their website and designing brochures. During this time I joined up with Sonoma County Web Developers and served as their webmaster. At the same time I began creating websites for small businesses. That work grew into what is now Webflavors.
Today
Today, through Webflavors I bring my creativity and passion to all my clients, whether it’s in the food service, health, recreation industries, or non-profits. In addition to my own creative talents I have also built relationships with other web developers and designers in California that have the same passion about the web as I do.
